Hussein Khalid is currently the Executive Director of HAKI Africa. For the last 15 years, Mr. Khalid has been at the forefront of agitating for the rights of community members at the grassroots level in Kenya and the general East African region. Mr. Khalid has worked with and served as a member of numerous civil rights groups and institutions, including Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI), Government Taskforce on Grievances of Coast People, the Centre for Law and Research International (CLARION) and the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC). He has been involved in various national and international processes to promote and protect fundamental rights and freedoms of the people including giving testimonies to numerous taskforces. Mr. Khalid is a lawyer by profession and has also undertaken other courses including Fundamentals of Social Accountability at Rhodes University (South Africa), International Human Rights Conventions at the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom) and Crime Prevention in Kenya with the United States International University (Kenya).
Ali Fujo is a human rights activist furthermore he is a thespian. Fujo has worked with several CBOs and NGOs include Azhar Arts Troupe (AAT), Mombasa Youth Counseling centre (MYCC), Population Service International (PSI), and Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) as a community health educator, Human Rights Thespian and a peer educator. Mr. Fujo has been certified as a community sensitizer on HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Peace Management, Social Audit, and Cyber Peer Educator. Currently Fujo works for HAKI Africa as a program assistant and head of Youth Engagement and empowerment Project (YEEP).
M&E/Digital and Communications Officer
Ms Zaunga is the M&E/Digital and Communications officer at HAKI Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems Technology from U.S.I.U (United States International University-Africa) with a concentration is Forensics and Cyber Crime. She also minored in Criminal Justice giving her basic knowledge of the justice system. She has undertaken certifications in Ethical Hacking, Global Maritime Distress and Safety System and Security Awareness. Ms Zaunga has had the opportunity to Intern at Techbiz Limited in the hardware department. Ms Zaunga is a hardworking individual whose main goal and purpose in life is to ensure that justice prevails.
Esther Ngure is currently working as a program officer in HAKI Africa. She is in charge of the integrity docket that looks into social audits, budget tracking and good governance. Esther also delves in projects aligned to countering violent extremism and radicalization in the promotion of peace and security. She was attached at the ministry of labor and social security and services assisting with the implementation of the cash transfer project in Athi River Sub County. Ms. Ngure is also gender expert with a bachelor’s degree in gender and development.
Salma Hemed is a Program Officer at HAKI Africa. Salma is currently pursuing her degree in business management specializing in project planning. Salma has been working in the NGO sector for several years. Before HAKI Africa, she worked at Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI).Salma has been trained and facilitated in various local, national and International seminars including Social Protection Course in Arusha,Tanzania, Digital and Physical Security training in Kampala, Uganda and Harm Reduction course for drug users in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Salma is a certified Pan Africa Human Rights Defender and a trainer in security management.As a staff of HAKI Africa, she continues to be an effective Gender Rights county mobiliser who works to agitate for the rights of women and children.
Is a CPA finalist at the Vision Institute of Professionals. She brings valuable expertise from her past experience as a procurement Manager at Auto Continental Ltd and a marketing Supervisor at Kenexpo International Exhibitions. Her career objective is to be relevant and competent towards the success of HAKI Africa. Her ideas and skills have greatly shaped the finance department and the organization at large. She is happy she is able to work with likeminded people to make a difference in the fight for Humanity, Activism, Knowledge and Integrity.
Francis Auma is currently the Program officer for Swift Action of HAKI Africa. Auma is currently pursuing his degree in Public Administration. For the last 13years, Mr. Auma has been at the forefront of agitating for the rights of community members at the grassroots level in Kenya and the general East African region. Mr. Auma has worked with Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) for past 8 years. He has been involved in various national and international processes to promote and protect fundamental rights and freedoms of the people including giving testimonies to numerous taskforces. Mr. Auma is a vocal Human rights defender and has also worked with ICC International criminal court department of registrar. He has documented and publicizes a number of books on human rights violation in Kenya.
