HAKI Africa engaging with CSO stakeholders in Mandera to promote peace and inclusive development in Northeast Kenya’s borderland counties
This project aims to address critical socio-economic, governance, and security challenges in the borderland counties of Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa by fostering civil-military coordination, promoting human rights, and enhancing human security. The initiative seeks to empower communities and create sustainable development opportunities by building trust between civilians, government authorities, and security actors while addressing issues like resource scarcity, climate vulnerabilities, and gender-based violence.

Key activities include conducting community dialogues to identify pressing concerns, fostering inclusive discussions, and ensuring that marginalized voices—such as women and youth—are represented. The project also involves documenting and analyzing challenges related to governance, security, and resource management, engaging stakeholders to develop collaborative solutions, and preparing evidence-based reports and proposals to guide effective interventions.
The project not only strengthens community resilience but also promotes transparency, accountability, and cooperation among key players, aiming to reduce tensions, enhance local governance, and ensure long-term human security in these vulnerable regions.
