SCORE seeks to address the root causes of conflict and countering violent extremism (CVE) and to reduce the allure of potentially radicalizing messages originally focusing in the Coast region of Kenya (Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Tana River, and Lamu counties) but with prospects of expanding to other regions in the consequent period. SCORE will work towards its purpose through the creation of a flexible and participatory civil society strengthening program that will identify and support legitimate community-based groups in the target areas. The capacity of local civil society organizations (CSOs) will be strengthened to empower them to effectively advocate for transparent, inclusive, conflict-sensitive and accountable government institutions at the county level. Capacity of local CSOs will also be built on technical skills related to conflict mitigation and CVE. SCORE will have the following objectives:

Strengthen community resilience against conflict and violent extremism
Enhance institutional functionality and technical capability of targeted CSOs to address conflict mitigation and CVE in the context of devolution
Establish a fund that can rapidly and effectively respond to incidents of violence, be it from community conflict or violent extremism

In working towards the stated objectives, SCORE will support effective, community-owned conflict mitigation programs at the county level that can address the root causes of conflict and CVE; strengthen the capacity of civil society at the local and county level to advocate for transparent, inclusive, and accountable government institutions and lobby for better service delivery and conflict-sensitive governance.
