HAKI Africa and Taita Taveta County Government Launch Urban Green Corridor

Today marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable urban development and environmental conservation as HAKI Africa, in collaboration with the Taita Taveta County Government, officially launched the Urban Green Corridor under the Climate Justice for Human Security Project. The event, which took place at Kariakor Grounds in Voi, was honored by the presence of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Taita Taveta County. HAKI Africa appreciates the support from our partners, Forumciv Eastern and Southern Africa that made Urban Green Corridor launch a success.

Governor Mwadime emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “My vision is that fruit trees and those of medicinal value be grown at the green park to ensure a healthier and greener Taita Taveta.”

Christine Kilalo also underscored the significance of the green space, noting, “This pioneering green space is set to beautify the county and be utilized for responsible recreation activities. HAKI Africa’s Executive Director, Yusuf M. Aboubakar, highlighted the environmental benefits of tree planting. “This is vital to provide clean air, as conservationists have predicted if carbon emissions are not reversed come 2050, the high temperatures on earth are going to be unbearable,” he stated.

HAKI Africa and the Taita Taveta County Government plan to expand the Urban Green Corridor initiative to other parts of the county, with continued support from ForumCiv Eastern and Southern Africa and other partners.
